This class teaches students basic SketchUp skills while learning to draft residential-type floor plans and elevations using the software. Learn how to draw walls, windows and doors in plan view with elevations and furniture plans. Students will understand basic SketchUp commands based on hand drafting skills developed in Drafting I.

Course Objectives:

  • Students will apply what they have learned in Intro to Hand Drafting CSIDDR101 and learn SketchUp software to draft digitally.
  • Develop a room plan with a furniture layout to scale.
  • Design and draw elevations based on student’s plan view of a room.
  • Learn to import and export drawings for easy access within the design community.

Software link will be provided for student version of SketchUp. Student must supply laptop.

    • Microsoft® Internet Explorer 9.0 or higher
    • 2+ GHz processor
    • 8+ GB RAM (Minimum requirement is 4 GB RAM, but this will run slow and is not recommended.)
    • 700MB of available hard-disk space
    • 3D class video card with 1 GB of memory or higher and support for hardware acceleration. Please ensure that the video card driver supports OpenGL 3.1 or higher and is up to date.

      • QuickTime 5.0 and web browser for multimedia tutorials.
